Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about what we do, what we do not do, and how working with us works.
Services
What does academic guidance from AcademicDude include?
Academic guidance means helping you understand and improve your own work. Depending on what you need, we can explain an assignment brief, help you plan a structure, give feedback on a draft, guide your research approach or edit for language, clarity and formatting. You stay the author throughout. You can see the full range on our services overview.
Do you support students from my country or university?
We work with international students at universities in any country, especially in Germany, France, the UK and Australia, as well as elsewhere. We have no affiliation with, and are not endorsed by, any university. Because expectations vary between institutions, we work from your own brief, marking criteria and department guidance.
Which languages do you work in?
Our guidance and editing are currently provided in English. We do not yet offer support for work written in German. If you study in Germany and write in English, we are happy to help.
Can you help with presentations and reports?
Yes. We can help you structure a presentation or report, give feedback on your slides or draft, and edit for clarity. You prepare the content and deliver the presentation yourself. See presentation and academic communication guidance.
Academic integrity
Will you write my assignment, essay or dissertation for me?
No. We do not write or complete assessed work for submission, and we will decline requests that ask us to. What we can do is help you understand the task, plan your approach, give feedback on your drafts and improve the language of writing you have produced yourself. Our academic integrity page explains where we draw the line and why.
Can I use AI tools for my university work?
That depends on your university and often on the individual module. Some allow AI for brainstorming or language checks, some require you to declare it and some do not allow it at all. Always check your institution's current AI-use policy and ask your tutor if it is unclear.
Do you guarantee a grade or a pass?
No. Grades depend on your own work and on your markers' judgement, so no one can honestly guarantee them. Our aim is to help you understand what is expected and improve your writing and thinking.
Can you guarantee my work will pass Turnitin or AI-detection checks?
No. We do not promise similarity scores or AI-detection results, and no one can control how these tools assess a piece of work. The best protection is writing your work yourself, citing your sources correctly and following your university's rules on AI use. Our guide to citation management can help you keep track of sources.
What do you expect from me as a student?
We expect you to submit only work that is your own and to follow your institution's academic-integrity and AI-use policies. If your university restricts outside help, such as proofreading, you are responsible for checking those rules before asking us. Read our academic integrity commitment for more.
Editing
What is the difference between editing and rewriting?
Editing improves how your existing writing communicates: grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence clarity, consistency and formatting. Rewriting changes your ideas, arguments or content, and for assessed work that would no longer be your own writing. We edit and comment; where an argument needs developing, we explain the issue so that you can revise it yourself. Our editing and proofreading service describes this in more detail.
What does proofreading cover?
Proofreading is a final check of a nearly finished draft for errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, consistency and layout. It does not change your argument or structure. If your university has its own proofreading policy, please send it to us, as some institutions limit the kind of changes a third party may make. The proofreading checklist can help you do a first pass yourself.
Thesis & research
Can you help with my thesis or dissertation?
Yes, through guidance rather than writing. We can help you plan chapters, clarify your research question, interpret supervisor feedback, review the logic of a draft chapter and edit your language. Your supervisor remains your main academic adviser, and decisions about your research stay with you. See thesis and dissertation guidance for what this involves.
Can you help me plan a research project or proposal?
Yes. We can talk through possible topics, help you narrow a research question, discuss which methods might fit and comment on the structure of your proposal. You choose the topic and design and write the proposal yourself. You might also find the research question builder and our research paper and project guidance useful.
Referencing
Which referencing styles can you help with?
We can help with commonly used styles such as APA, MLA, Harvard, Chicago and others your department may require. Harvard in particular has many local variations, so we always follow the version in your university's own guide if you send it. We can check consistency and explain how to reference tricky source types; you remain responsible for citing the sources you actually used. Our citation and referencing service has more detail.
Process & scope
How long will it take?
It depends on the length and type of work, the kind of help you need and your deadline. We confirm a realistic timeline in your quote before you agree to anything. If we cannot meet your deadline properly, we tell you rather than rushing the work. Contacting us early gives you the most options.
Are revisions or follow-up questions included?
It depends on the request: your quote states exactly which follow-up is included, so you know before you start. The scope depends on the service and what you have asked for. If you are unsure whether something is covered, ask us before you agree and we will explain.
How much does it cost?
We do not have a fixed price list. Every request is different, so we send you a quote based on what you need, the length of the work and your timeline. You can request a quote through our contact form, and you are under no obligation to go ahead.
What should I send when I make a request?
Send whatever helps us understand the task: the assignment brief or question, marking criteria, your draft (if you have one), any supervisor or tutor feedback, and your deadline. If your university requires a specific referencing style or has rules about outside help, include those too. The more context you share, the more useful our guidance can be. How it works explains each step.
Which file formats can I send?
Common document formats such as Word files and PDFs are usually the easiest to work with, and Word files allow us to add comments and tracked changes. If your work is in another format, such as a presentation or spreadsheet, tell us in your message and we will confirm whether we can work with it.
Privacy
Will my work and personal details be kept confidential?
We use the information and files you send only to respond to and deliver your request. We do not sell your personal information or share your work for any other purpose. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.
How long do you keep my files?
Files you share are deleted within 30 days after your request and any agreed follow-up are completed, or sooner if you ask. We use your files only to respond to and deliver your request. If you would like your files or details removed, contact us and we will explain what is possible. Full details are in our privacy policy.
AI tools
Do the free writing tools on the site send my text anywhere?
No. The planning and writing tools on our tools page run in your browser, so the text you type is not sent to us or stored on a server. Remember to copy or save anything you want to keep before you close the page.
Is the chat assistant on the site an AI?
The chat assistant runs in a clearly labelled prototype mode unless AI has been enabled, so you can see which mode you are using. It can point you to guides and help you prepare a request, but it does not replace guidance from our team. Avoid typing sensitive personal information into it.
